Michael Ries, MD
Chief of Arthroplasty
Dr. Michael Ries is chief of the UCSF Arthroplasty Service and a specialist in the treatment of arthritis patients who require hip and knee treatment. He joined UCSF Medical Center in 1997, after serving as an arthritis fellow in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Ries earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, N.H. He completed a general surgery residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhassett, NY and an orthopedic residency at State Hospital of New York at Stony Brook. He is a professor of orthopedic surgery at UCSF.
